How to Launch a Business in Indiana

You'll need a distinctive name for your LLC that isn't already in use by another company in the state. To form an LLC in Indiana, you must submit Articles of Organization to the Indiana Secretary of State. Indiana does not have a standard state-issued business license, and some enterprises in the state are exempt from obtaining one.

Your Articles of Organization only need to be filed once, but you must file business entity documents every two years after that. The Indiana SOS has established a cost of $50 for this.

The state income tax rate in Indiana is 3.23%, however certain towns have an additional tax rate, bringing the total tax rate to 3.73% to 6.13%. The current rate of Indiana’s corporate tax is 4.9%. 

You must pay self-employment tax and federal income tax as the investor of an LLC. Self-employment tax must be paid by all members or supervisors who take profits out of the LLC. The self-employment tax rate is now 15.3%.

The "Articles of Incorporation" must be filed with the Secretary of State in Indiana. When you file, you'll have to pay a $100 filing fee. You must keep a copy of your bylaws at your primary business operating address in Indiana, but this document does not need to be filed with the state. 

Your company will be required to produce a biennial report in order to comply with Indiana legislation. This report is due every two years in the month that your company was established. The cost of forming a corporation in Indiana is $100.
